My Favorite Holiday Movies

The holidays just aren’t the same without these movies!

Home Alone (1990)
This is probably the funniest, most original holiday movie that’s also got a lotta love. My heart tingles every time his mom walks through the door at the very end and Kevin runs to her with open arms.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
I remember watching this on basic cable every Christmas when I was a kid and I fell in love with Michael Caine. He’s such a brilliant actor. Besides, how can you not like the ensemble? Its Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit!

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
The cult classic Tim Burton movie. When you grow up with the same cute cartoon Santas and heartwarming holiday movies, this new twist on Christmas proved to be a refreshing delight.

Just Friends (2005)
Although this film is more recent, it’s made it on my list of must-watch holiday movies because frankly, I heart Ryan Reynolds, even in braces and fat suit.

Serendipity (2001)
A movie about accidentally stumbling upon love when least expected.

Die Hard 2 (1990)
Best holiday action movie ever! I had the biggest crush on Bruce Willis after watching this movie for the first time, when I was 8 years old!

Love Actually (2003)
A valentine to love all wrapped up in a Christmas bow. Its enough to make me believe that at Christmastime, love really is all around.

The Family Stone (2005)
I wasn’t a fan of SJP until I watched this movie. She’s hilarious as the uptight, conservative, bitc..usiness woman celebrating Christmas with her boyfriend’s family. I’m so thankful that I have great, easy going future-in-laws!

The Holiday (2006)
This movie gave me that warm cozy feeling all the way through.

A Christmas Story (1983)
My 7th grade gym teacher showed this movie to our class the day before winter break and its been my all time favorite holiday movie ever since! If you don’t know the phrase “You’ll shoot your eyes out!”, or any of the countless other gems in this off-beat holiday movie, then get your butt to the video store asap! I double dog dare you not to like this movie!

Honorable mentions: The Terminal (2004), When Harry Met Sally (1989), You’ve Got Mail (1998), Bad Santa (2003), Elf (2003), A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965).

Overworked Hands

Dry.

Beat up.

Cut up.

Ugly.

Sore.

These are all descriptions of my HANDS! Not very lady-like huh? Well, it’s the truth. I’ve been helping out at my boyfriend’s new restaurant and every night I would come home with a new cut or scrap and really rough, dry hands. I realized I have to do something about them fast before I have nothing left but unattractive ugly stumps rather than soft feminine hands.

You use your hands a lot no matter what your daily responsibilities, and dry, chapped hands can make the whole day miserable. The dryness can be even worse in the winter when cold weather strikes. Regular hand washing, which is important to keep germs at bay, can take its toll on your skin. Using a moisturizing soap will help, but contact with water still dries out skin by rinsing away its protective layer of moisture, so the more you wash, the more your hands are at risk of becoming chapped.

What I like to do is apply hand cream at night and wear moisturizing gloves to sleep to give my skin the extra boost they need to see it through the dry season. Various kinds of gloves are available — some are designed to be used with lotions, and others will get the job done on their own. They’re sometimes called “spa gloves” and can cost anywhere from $10 to almost $50, available at drugstores and specialty retailers.

Moisturizing gloves contain a number of ingredients to help your skin, such as oils, vitamins and aloe. Often, these ingredients are part of a lining inside the gloves, although sometimes the fabrics themselves are infused with moisturizing agents. Some gloves are even scented, so if you have any fragrance allergies, be sure to check the label before you choose your gloves.

How to Make Your Own Anti-Fog Window Treatment

With winter around the corner, the cold has definitely brought foggy and frosty windows! Here’s how you can make your own anti-fog window treatment.

You will need:

  • A bowl
  • 1 quart of hot water
  • Window cleaner
  • Lint-free cloths
  • 2 oz of white vinegar

To make your anti-fog window treatment:

  1. Clean windows thoroughly with window cleaner prior to treatment.
  2. Mix 2 oz of white vinegar and 1 quart of hot water in bowl.
  3. Saturate lint-free cloth in mixture.
  4. Wring excess moisture from cloth.
  5. Wipe windows and mirrors with cloth and let dry.

This vinegar and water combination will keep windows ice and frost-free.

You can also try using shaving cream. I’ve done this in my bathroom and it keeps the mirrors fog-free! Wipe some shaving cream on the mirror, and then wipe off without rinsing. The residue left behind from the shaving cream keeps fog away!
