When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally (1989) is one of the most clever and hilarious romantic comedies I’ve ever seen, and what I believe started the chain of sappy, hand-me-the-tissues, why-can’t-I-have-love-like-that madness. There are so many priceless moments that I can’t pick out one to highlight. But the thing I love so much about this movie is the fact that it truly is funny.
A frequent topic of talk show discussions, magazine articles, and dinner table conversations probably originated from this film. That is, “Men and women can’t be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.” The film spends the rest of its running length challenging it, and it’s up to the viewer to decide whether the premise is proven or disproven by events.
This movie also shows that friendship is a strong foundation for love, and that love is still out there for the least of us. If you know this film, then you know how good it is. If you’ve never seen it, you’re truly missing out on one of the best romantic comedies ever made. After all, a good romance is timeless.
