A huge 8.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Chile early Saturday morning killing at least 122 people, leaving a trail of twisted buildings and sending tsunami waves roaring across the vast Pacific Ocean. A huge arc of nations in the Pacific “Ring of Fire” from New Zealand to Japan are on tsunami alert, readying emergency plans instituted after the Indian Ocean disaster of 2004. Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast as well as hundreds of islands from the bottom of the planet to the top are on high alert. Waves were likely to hit Asian, Australian and New Zealand shores within 24 hours of Saturday’s quake. A tsunami wave can travel at up to 600 mph.
