Chronic Bitchface

I’m not entirely comfortable with the term “bitchface”, but otherwise, this is me. Some people get smile lines but I have wrinkles between my brows and bags under my eyes. I hardly look sweet or approachable when I’m lost in thought. If I don’t smile, people think I’m pissed or that I’m sick. No amount of makeup can lift this unwanted curse.

KRISATOMIC writes: “Just doing my bit to spread awareness for this common, but little understood condition. Thousands around the world are affected by chronic bitchface, with sufferers having to endure being told to “SMILE” and “cheer up” by well meaning, but irritating strangers. There is no known cure.

By the way, if you come across someone with the bitchface, say nothing and simply smile at them. Almost always, they will smile back and feel great in return. Telling sufferers to “smile” or “cheer up” will only cause their mood to match the face. Seriously.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future [...] If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle [...] it just gets better and better as the years roll on.”

Today I’m 28. I’ve been celebrating and doing it big since I turned 18, and each year seems to top the next. So, now that I’ve officially reached my late twenties, I need to start slowing down before I hit the big three-oh. I’m ready for 28 to lead the way to new experiences, happy memories and good times all around.

Cheers,
Dee

10-year High School Reunion

It seems like high school was just yesterday… and yet also a lifetime ago. If you believe the hype (and the movies), the 10-year reunion is where you go to prove yourself, get sweet revenge, and to validate your predictions about where your classmates would be by now. Fortunately, I had a pleasant experience going through high school. I got along with everyone, and everyone got along with me. So I didn’t have any big revenge plot or crazy accomplishments I wanted to flaunt. I also kind of knew what everyone was up to because we keep in touch on Facebook. So why go?

Well, to be perfectly honest, going to the reunion was a chance for me to hang out with old classmates that I could only keep in touch with over the phone or the Internet. I wanted to see everyone in person and talk about their personal journey 10 years after graduating high school. So I went!

There weren’t many that could make it home to attend the reunion (our graduating class was over 200!) but the few of us that were there made the most of it. Having it at a lounge/club in downtown wasn’t too shabby either! We all had a blast! Until the 20-year reunion rolls around, cheers to another great decade, my fellow classmates of 2001!

Japan 8.9M Quake and Tsunami

A magnitude-8.9 offshore quake struck Japan near the city of Sendai, triggering a 23-foot (seven-meter) tsunami that slammed Japan’s northeast coast Friday afternoon. This was followed by more than 50 aftershocks recorded at over magnitude-6.0. The ferocious tsunami carried away ships, cars and homes, and triggered widespread fires that burned out of control. The death toll is expected to top 1,000.

The waves washed ashore on Hawaii and the U.S. west coast hour later, where evacuations were ordered from California to Washington. Little damage was reported but at least five people has been swept to sea by the aftermath. Four people were rescued from the water in Oregon, but one man who was taking photos of the waves in Northern California was missing. The entire Pacific is put on alert, including coastal areas of South America, Canada and Alaska.
