AT&T Ends The Unlimited Data Plan

The $30 unlimited data plan with AT&T is soon coming to an end.

AT&T announced that it would start offering metered data plans for mobile device users. The lowest-priced data option is called DataPlus and will cost $15 a month for 200 megabytes of data transfer. For those who use less than 200 megabytes of data a month, the price of the new plan is effectively cut in half.

The next step up is the DataPro, providing 2 gigabytes of data a month to a single phone for $25. If a DataPro subscriber goes over the 2 gigabytes, they will be able to purchase an additional gigabyte for $10.

AT&T also announced a new service that would allow smartphone users to tether their devices and access the Internet as a modem. The tethering feature will cost an additional $20 a month and is only available for those with the DataPro plan.

Although the $30-a-month unlimited data plan will be eliminated, existing AT&T customers will have the option to be grandfathered on their existing monthly charge.

Users of the iPad will be affected by the service changes, too. AT&T said new iPad customers would have the option to purchase a $25 monthly plan for access to 2 gigabytes of data. This will replace the $29.99 unlimited access option currently offered for the iPad.

The service changes will go into effect on June 7 with the expected release of the iPhone OS4.

Enable iPhone Tethering with MyWi

For those of you who have been anxiously waiting to tether with your iPhones, it’s now available with the 3.1.8 release of MyWi. With this app, you can connect your laptop, iPad or other mobile device to your iPhone easily!

WARNING! Your iPhone must be jailbroken for this to work. Jailbreak means tampering with your iPhone software and code that is unauthorized by the manufacturer which can void any warranty that comes with your device.

CAUTION! Tethering your iPhone is against the iPhone data plan terms. AT&T could slap you with huge fees if you overuse this so I recommend only using it during emergencies!

With that said…

MyWi is available for download at Cydia. All you have to do is download MyWi from the xSellize source, restart your iPhone, launch the app and flip the “Wi-Fi Tethering” option to ON. That’s it! You can now enjoy your iPhone’s unlimited data plan, just don’t abuse it!

iPhone Holder with Binder Clips

I’ve been looking all over for a simple iPhone holder that can prop my phone up at an angle so I can watch movies while I’m working on something at my desk. I’ve tried the business card holder only to be disappointed when I realized its too flimsy and could be easily crushed by the weight of my iPhone. I’ve tried twisting and bending paper clips but they snap apart too easily and warp out of shape if I’m not careful about finding a good place to tuck it away when I’m not using it.

So I’ve come up with something that’s easy and only takes seconds to put together. Behold, my iPhone holder made of two binder clips!

All you need is two binder clips: a large one and a smaller one. I had some 1.25″ and 3/4″ wide clips, so I used those. You can substitute and go with a larger binder clip but I wouldn’t recommend going any smaller than a 1.25″ wide clip for stability and support.

First, clasp the smaller clip’s hands together and then bend the body upwards. You’ll have to hold the arms, or they will flip apart.

Then, insert the small arms into the big clip’s jaws. Don’t insert them all the way because you want to create a little crevasse for the edge of your iPhone to rest into.

And that’s it! Make several and keep them at home, work, and in your backpack. Simple enough, the stand supports the iPhone vertically too and is quite sturdy.

You can now view your iPhone at a comfortable angle. Enjoy!

My little cousins and my boyfriend’s nephews like to borrow my iPhone and play games on it. But after a while, they get bored with the few amount of games I have readily available. So I checked the AppStore on my iPhone for more games and found some really good ones for their ages.

Ages 2 to 4

KidCalc — Math flash cards and counting games are a fun, exciting, and engaging way to teach math to young children using a powerful and effective reward based system.

Puzzles — With 12 different puzzles, nice sound effects, beautiful graphics, this game will entertain your children while improving their motor skills.

Balloonimals — Pretty fun virtual ballon animal game where you blow in the mic to make an animal, tap it to make it dance, then explode it by over-inflating.

Doodle — A drawing app that is perfectly between something full-featured like Brushes and simpler apps. It even offers doodle live so you can draw with your friends between iPhones.

Ages 4 to 8

Doodle Drop — A very simply yet very addicting, tilting your iPhone to guide the doodle dog drop the page and see how far you can get!

Knots — Knots is like Twister for your fingers. Colored dots pop up on the screen and you hold a finger until told to release and stop on another dot. And, just like the original Twister, the longer knots goes on the more twisted you become and the more fun you have.

LineUp — Touch groups of three or more same-colored blocks in order to get rid of them and stop the board from overflowing. A row of new blocks is added to the pile every few seconds, and the time it takes for these to be added speeds-up as the game goes on.

Booooly! — Similar to LineUp, Booooly is a game of touching and blasting 3 or more boolies of the same colors stick together. There’s more to the game if you strategize your blasts to earn more points!

Creamy Ice — Your goal is to serve tasty ice cream to your customers by tapping the correct ingredients in the right order. Manage your own ice cream business – get more flavors, bigger stores and larger orders as you play the career mode. It’s all about concentration, skill, speed and fun!

Cooking Mama — This popular game is now availale for the iPhone and iPod touch! The game features a generous helping of dishes from the home console series as well as plenty of never-before-seen cuisine!

CritterCrunch — You play a furry forest dweller with a long tongue, whose job is to clear the board by feeding smaller animals into larger ones. There are initially 3 sizes of animals (small, medium, large). Feeding two of the smaller ones into the larger ones causes the larger one to explode and take out any identical animals around it. Super addicting and very fun!

MASH — Its the game that all of us grew up playing! Want to find out who you or your friends will marry? Are you going to live in a beautiful, spacious mansion or a cramped, dirty shack? Your kids will enjoy playing this with each other.

LetsTans — Tangram is available on iPhone. With new puzzle modes and plenty of new levels, this game will keep your kids busy!

iPhone Android Lock

iPhone has a standard passcode lock feature that allow users to lock their phones with a 4-digit pin code. It’s handy for keeping unwanted individuals from accessing your phone.

Recently, I learned there’s a third-party application that emulates the graphical dot-to-dot style lock on Android-based phones. The Android lock system uses a series of nine dots in a 3×3 square where you need to replicate a pre-set pattern to unlock the phone. Unfortunately, this functionality can only be loaded onto iPhones that have been jailbroken.

You can install this app through Cydia and configure your graphical passcode by going to Setting → AndroidLock to set the pattern. The pattern must use four or more dots.

If you forgot your passcode, follow this trick to unlock and reinstall:

  1. Call your iPhone.
  2. Answer and tap on the Home button while in call.
  3. Now you are at the home screen.
  4. Use Cydia to uninstall and reinstall the app.
